Rick is a descendant of Koloa sugar planters who settled on Kauai in the early 1900s. While living in Hawaii most of his life, Rick attended the University of Northern Colorado where he received a Bachelors Degree in journalism with a business minor. He and his wife, Joan, who is the Assistanct Head of School at Island School, chose to settle on Kauai very close to his family roots. They live in Kalaheo, while their daughter, Erin, works for a leading real estate company on Oahu, and Sarah, is working with AmeriCorps in Washington.

A full-time Realtor on Kauai since 1979, Rick has consistently ranked among the top producing, residential specialists on the island, one year attaining his goal of being the #1 overall producer in sales volume ahead of all Kauai agents. He has also played a key role in assisting clients with navigating through the development process and project marketing.

Rick served as President of the Kauai Board of Realtors in 2006, and has served in various capacities with the Board throughout the years.

Aside from his career, Rick is involved in a sustainable forestry project, and is active in community affairs. He has coached youth volleyball with the Hoikaika Volleyball Club, and his personal time is occupied with his family, beach volleyball, tennis and surfing.
